1. What are eyelash extensions?

If you don’t already know it, semi permanent eyelash extensions are the latest beauty craze to take the world by storm! Eyelash extensions draw more attention to your eyes than mascara, yet looks more natural than false strip lashes. Now you can have gorgeous luscious lashes 24 hours a day, when you wake up, lounge on the beach, in the office, even when you’re working out, you will look ‘done’.

Wimpey, thin, light lashes are transformed – one lash at a time – into a long, thick, luxurious set of eyecatching magic. The process involves attaching single strands of high quality synthetic eyelashes, one by one, onto your own natural lashes to mimic, enhance, and “extend” your own natural lashes. A variety of extensions are applied to add volume, length and curl. Styling of lashes are highly customised to create a look that is bespoke you. We can also add a touch of colour or even some sparkle.

2. What is the difference between eyelash extensions and cluster lashes?

Eyelash extensions are individual strands of synthetic lashes that are curved to replicate your natural lashes. This differs from cluster lashes where 3 or 4 strands of lashes fan out from a “bulb” at the bottom. Cluster lashes are often heavy and difficult to blend in with your natural lashes, giving a very unnatural look. The prices charged for cluster lashes in salons are often much cheaper than individual eyelash extensions, however the quality and finish and longevity are often substandard and speaks for itself.

3. How long do eyelash extensions last?

Eyelash extensions when looked after properly should last 4 to 6 weeks. Over time you will shed your extensions as you lose your natural lashes, and through every day wear and tear. Your eyelash extensions will become sparse over time, and in-fills are required to replace the extensions that have fallen off. We normally recommend you to visit us every 3 to 4 weeks. Our infill sessions are based on 30-90min sessions. Prices can be found on the services page.

Please note, eyelash extensions are incredibly delicate and care must be exercised to avoid your extensions falling out prematurely. You must not Expose your eyelash extensions to steam, very hot temperatures or water for the first 24hrs. Avoid touching, picking, or rubbing your lashes as this can weaken the adhesive bond on your extensions and cause them to fall off prematurely. You must also continue to take care of them after the initial 24hr period, exposure to high temperatures such as bikram yoga can weaken the bond of the glue.

4. Does the treatment hurt?

The best way I can describe this treatment is two hours of complete BLISS (time is dependant on what set you have applied) Almost everyone falls asleep! The treatment is extremely relaxing – you can even opt to have a mani/pedi to save time. The extensions are attached to your natural lashes and not the skin and therefore clients do not feel a thing. Clients are required to lay back flat on a beauty couch with their eyes closed whilst the procedure is carried out. Please check our step by step guide. Please note if you are Pregnant let us know in advance so we can book out extra time.

5. How long does the treatment take?

The application of eyelash extensions is a meticulous process that requires concentration and precision. Depending on the set chosen and your natural lashes please refer to the treatment menu for an indication of time.

6. Will I need a refill or maintenance appointment and how often should I get this done?

If you choose to upkeep your lashes and maintain the look of your eyelash extensions, regular touch ups are recommended to keep them looking full and luscious. This varies from person to person, depending on how well you look after your extensions, your natural lash cycle, and the initial set chosen. Typically, clients get touch-ups every 2 to 4 weeks. Alternatively some clients prefer a fresh new set of extensions, you can allow for them to all fall out and have a new set applied each time.

7. How do eyelash extensions look and feel after the procedure?

Eyelash extensions are an enhancement of your natural lashes. We provide a bespoke service catered to you. We take into consideration your natural lash length, curl and thickness, and apply eyelashes suitable for them. Our lashes are super soft and are designed to mimic natural eyelashes. They are light weight and made out of the finest quality. You should not feel any pain or discomfort in or around your eyes after the procedure. Your new eyelash extensions will be clean and well separated with no clumping or lumps of adhesive visible. Our adhesive is second to none and has been quality controlled and carries full EU certification. We have carried out numerous remedial / corrective work on clients who have had dangerous and poorly applied eyelash extensions elsewhere, which just shows that we are experts in our field.

8. I don’t want my eyelash extensions anymore can I have them removed?

Its highly unlikely that you will want this, but ofcourse we can! The procedure takes around 30minutes with your eyes closed. A special remover is used to debond the lashes.

9. Do the eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

We have been applying eyelash extensions for over three years now and can safely say that we have never come across a client who has damaged their lashes. We educate our clients in taking care of their lashes. We also use appropriate lash lengths thickness and curls to suit each and every individual client. Each one of our technicians are fully trained and tested – we are specialists in what we do. properly applied eyelash extensions by an experienced qualified lash stylist should not damage your natural lashes. We use only EU certified adhesive and premium grade products. We always ensure that lashes are glued 1 – 2 millimetres away from the root. This ensures a healthy eyelash extension will continue to grow and the skin on the eyelid is kept clean.

10. How do I prepare my lashes for eyelash extensions?

You will be given preparation instructions before your visit. We always recommend having your eyelashes tinted either blue-black or black. This will ensure your natural lashes are as dark as possible, and will also help us see your lashes more clearly. Come to your appointment with clean lashes; do not have them permed for 6-8 weeks prior to your appointment and do not perm them after. Eyelashes must be clean and free of mascara and make up. Spend extra time washing your lashes the night before your appointment. Please remove all traces of eye makeup thoroughly and ensure your eyelashes are squeaky clean prior to the procedure. Use an oil free make up remover if possible (Simple, Bioderma are all very good brands) rinse afterwards with plenty of clean warm water. Any traces of oil or makeup (especially mascara!) will create a barrier between the adhesive and your natural lashes, causing your extensions to drop off prematurely.

11. How many lashes will I get applied in a full set?

This depends on how many natural lashes you have on each eye along with the set you choose. Generally, anywhere from 10 to 100+ lashes on each eye.

12. Can I get a half set or corners?

Yes, the cost varies depending on the type of lashes please ask your therapist for more details

13. What is a half set of lashes?

There are two types of ½ sets: lashes scattered throughout the whole eye or lashes from the middle of the eye to outer corner.

14. What is a set of corners?

This is when we add about lashes on the outer corners of each eye and blend them into your natural lash line.

15. My Natural Lashes are Curly / Straight/Thin/Short/Fine – can I still have eyelash extensions?

We can treat almost any type of client – however with most things there are certain type of clients we cannot. If you have any medical conditions that causes your hair to fall we cannot treat you. If your lashes are really curly we maynot be able to treat you. If you are unsure please don’t be shy and drop us an email. In the majority of cases, most clients’ lashes are good for eyelash extensions..

16. I’ve had eyelash extensions with another salon and I ‘m in pain / the look was awful / I want them removed. Can you help?

Yes we can help, all is not lost. Firstly we will assess the state of your eyelash extensions and will take before and after photos for your records. If we think your eyelash extensions have been damaged we will recommend that you wait for your eyelashes to grow back. We have corrected work from a variety of different lash ‘artists’ and normally can replace with a new set of Boudoir Lashes.

17. My eyelashes appear shorter after having the extensions removed is this true?

They may appear shorter because you have become accustomed to looking at longer lashes. Your eyelashes will be in different growth modes and will be back to normal within three months.

18. Can I get them wet?

Yes 24 hours of having your new Boudoir Lashes applied. Please refer to your aftercare leaflet for detailed instructions.

19. How do I look after them?

We advise you to simply fan them with your fingers or use a cocktail stick to individually fan them out. If you use a mascara wand the extensions may get caught in the fibres and prematurely pull them out. Your Boudoir Lashes Artist will show you how to do this. Just be careful not to poke your eyes out. Avoid using oil base make up remover as this will dissolve the glue and the lashes will fall out quickly.

20. Can I use a face washer and towels near my lashes?

No, avoid putting towels near your lashes as they can catch and pull out lashes. instead use link free towels / tissue to gently wipe around the lash line.

21. I always lose more lashes on one eye, why is that?

This is usually because that is the side of the face you sleep on and during the night the lashes can rub on pillows or blankets. We have a special eyelash pillow which can significantly reduce lash loss during sleep. Please ask your Boudoir Lashes artist.

22. What can I use when cleansing my lashes?

Use a gently eye wipe around the lash line taking care not to pull the lashes in a downward motion. Alternatively use a pointed cotton bud in warm water and gently cleanse around the eyes. Your Boudoir Lashes artist will be able to explain further. Be extremely gentle when cleansing and ensure that the products contain no alcohol, glycol, or oils as this will break down the bond of the glue.

23. I rub my eyes a lot will this be a problem?

We do not advise you to have eyelash extensions if you rub your eyes excessively. Rubbing your eyes in a rough manner runs the risk of pulling out the extensions and your natural lashes prematurely.

24. Can I apply mascara onto my eyelash extensions?

With your new Boudoir Lashes you won’t need to! You can apply mascara to your bottom lashes using a water based non waterproof mascara. You must be careful when removing the mascara from the bottom lashes taking care not to get the mascara and eyemakeup remover on your new extensions.

25. I cannot wear mascara as I have sensitive skin and eyes. Can I still get eyelash extensions?

Maybe, we do have sensitive glues, however, we ask that you make an appointment to carry out a test patch for the glue. If there is no reaction then you can make an appointment.

26. My eyelids are red and swollen?

This could be due to a variety of reasons. We suggest that you take antihistamines and contact us immediately. We always recommend you seek medical advice as we are not medically trained to understand reactions.

27. I have never had a reaction before?

Sometimes, for no apparent reason our body can react suddenly to the glue. There can be several reasons; new medication, seasonal changes in weather and allergies. Take antihistamines as soon as you get the reaction and make an appointment to have the lashes removed. If the problem persists seek medical attention.

28. Can I have my eyelashes permed?

We do not advise you to have an eyelash perm 6-8 weeks prior to eyelash extensions. If you have recently had a perm we will need you to book in for a consultation with us to assess the lash cycle of your natural eyelashes.

29. Do I need to have my eyelash extensions removed on a regular basis?

No some clients have had their extensions on for over 4 years. As long as you take care of your lashes and do not play or pull them out.

30. Loss of lashes.

Women lose hair from the head working down the body. The hair follicle becomes weaker, the eyelashes become brittle and break. Generally loss of eyelashes is caused by ageing and the main reasons are due to hormonal changes occurring during and after menopause or diet and stress.

31. What is the difference between all the different lash brands on the market today?

At Boudoir Lashes we have been trained by Lash Perfect, Novalash and Xtreme Lashes. Each lash house has a different method of training, we have put these practices together to bring you the best application technique. The most important aspect of the lash extension procedure is the skill of your technician therefore you will always be in good hands.

32. What is the Aftercare for my new eyelash extensions?

DO NOT expose your extensions to water for 12-24hours after application. If washing face, use care and avoid water or cleanser in the eye area.
DO NOT swim, shower, or use hot tubs, steam or sauna rooms for the first 12-24hrs.
Avoid contact between moisturisers, eye creams, oils, makeup removers and your eyelash extensions. Any cosmetic product or cleanser that contains glycols, organic solvents, or urea should be avoided. Products such as these can potentially breakdown the adhesive bond and shorten the duration of time the extensions stay on. Products with high concentrations of alcohol should also be avoided. Do not wear any mascara on your eyelash extensions. You may use mascara on your bottom lashes. However please remove the mascara without touching your eyelash extensions. Repeated use of mascara may shorten the lifespan of your extensions.
Do not curl your eyelash extensions, even with an eyelash curler, doing so will shorten the lifespan of your extensions by compromising the adhesive bond.

Avoid rubbing your eyes or pulling on your extensions. Any action which repeatedly puts stress or strain on your extensions will cause them to come off prematurely.
Your natural eyelashes normally shed on a regular basis, thus multiple extensions may be lost on any given day – this is the natural shedding process.
Touch up appointments is required every 3-4 weeks. You must have at least 50% of your extensions left on otherwise you will be charged for a full set on your visit.
